Terra - creating your own menu.

I feel like I went through a few loop holes just to get here, but all certainly worth it to celebrate one of my best friend's birthdays at this Michelin Star restaurant.

I was told by the restaurant, when I called and emailed, that they only seat up a maximum of 6 people in a party. The original plan was that we would have 6 people, which would have work out perfectly - but then it turned out to be 7... then somehow it became 8 an hour before our reservation o_o

The hostess told us that we can only dine at Bar Terra, Terra's sister restaurant, for a party of our size since Terra can't accommodate. Say what?? =O What went through all our minds was, "can't we just put two tables of 4 together??" But I wasn't sure since they could have been fully committed, etc. I walked across the lobby to Terra to ask if they can seat the 8 of us, as opposed to original 6, and their nice and friendly manager (who was just at Bar Terra when we came in) said they could certainly accommodate. Thank you, Andrew, so much for willing accommodate a party of our size so that we could enjoy a fabulous dinner at Terra.

Mount Beautiful Pinot Noir, New Zealand.

All of us shared a bottle of red to celebrate Ryan's birthday. This Pinot is so good, one of the better and most memorable Pinots to me. The best part of is that this Pinot was not even expensive. Score! I can't wait to pick up a bottle of this next time I'm at a wine and liquor store. I feel like I'm actually on the hunt for this Pinot so that I can drink all of it! Having two pictures of this wine in this post does it justice! :)

Bread & Butter.

Amuse-Bouche - thin cracker with fruits.

Birthday boy excited to have and use chopsticks for his dinner.

Heirloom tomatoes with black truffles and lentil beans.

My first time having truffle in a salad! It was a light, but yet filling, salad.

Off menu pasta with snap peas, corn, carrots, and black truffles.

I really liked this pasta dish. This was one of the more interesting pastas I've eaten. It doesn't have an alfredo, tomato, or olive oil sauce, but instead the chef created a pea sauce that tasted awesome for this dish. So yum!

Off menu mashed potatoes with arugula and wild mushrooms.

From the mushrooms to the potatoes, this third course was full of flavor. Everything on this plate had so much to give. I really liked the simplicity of the dish, just a few ingredients and the chef turned it into this wonderfully tasty dish. I couldn't finish it so I took it home and ate it the next morning for breakfast. ;)

Dark Chocolate Mousse on Bruschetta with Sea Salt, EVOO and Strawberry Compote.

I don't even eat strawberries, but these tiny strawberries looked so good that I had to try one. Verdict? YUMMY. I ended up sharing this dish with everyone at the table since only 2 out of 8 people got a dessert for their fourth course, myself being one of the two... All of the other 6 people got an additional entree instead, and wanted some of the dessert when it came to time! lol. Sharing is caring. So I ate one of the bruschetta with dark chocolate mousse and gave the other one and strawberries to the group. This was extremely good. I really like that the chef added a bit of sea salt on top of the dark chocolate mousse, making it taste deliciously sweet and savory at the same time. Yum. I would totally get this dessert again.

Ryan's birthday dessert.

Cost of sharing a tiny birthday ice cream dessert with friends?

Towards the middle / end of the night, our group had the whole restaurant to ourselves... and... it was awesome. It felt like we were having a private event and had our own room. We were able to kick back, enjoy each other's company, and be a little silly. :)

Inherently strange - this is why we all got along so well even though we just met each other few hours prior to this picture.

This is definitely the biggest group of friends, not including work events, I've ever gone to a Michelin Star restaurant with, and of course the more the merrier.

Reppin' East Coast in the West.

We're all from NJ and NY, and reppin' our East Coastness in the wine country ;)

Thank you everyone for coming to Ryan's birthday dinner, and a surprise shout out to Andrew, Terra's manager, for letting us dine there even though we exceeded the party of 6 limit. To be honest, the food was really good. I'm not sure why there weren't more people in the restaurant. My only thought for that is people usually go to Napa and Yountville for their dining after wine tasting, probably not so much at St. Helena, hence a smaller crowd, but definitely odd that there were so little people. I feel a bit sad for the restaurant, but not really since it's already a renowned restaurant and it also gave my friends and I more intimate time together. :) I liked my time here and would definitely be willing to come back.
